Amd FX 8350

Post by dominic » Sun Apr 21, 2013 3:37 pm

Hello guys, what do you think of AMD Fx - 8350? is a powerful processor?, has 8 physical cores and the clock is 4ghz

Wrf ems would work well on this platform? or the need for some change?

Compared to the Core i5 and i7 would be faster?

Probably it is much slower for WRF then Intel CPU. But I don't have a proof for that.

hello meteoadriatic

Intel is always up. But I never thought it was slower. It must be said, however, that also consumes 125 watts! very high consumption ... It costs much less than a I7 .. From the reviews posted on toms hardware was recommended this processor in a multi tasking. My use however is only for WRF. So then I should choose between I5 and I7 at this point

At this point, the choice falls on I5 and I7 3570K 3770K

Since WRF runs better without HT, at this point talking WRF, the differences between the 3570 and the 3770 would be minimal and only in terms of mhz, since the difference is 2MB of L3 cache and 100MHz frequency.

They are oriented towards the I5 3570K

As a percentage of what would change in WRF-EMS between 3570 and 3770

I can take the 3570 or am I wrong?

We will never know until someone benchmark both of them :) I believe in 10-20% of difference in WRF running time between them.

Thanks meteoadriatic: D

I read around (on toms hardware), that a I7 without HT activated is similar to a I5 3750 (no ht).

This 10/20% is a lot of difference to WRF?

I decided to buy a 3570: D I hope it's the right choice :)

what do you think?

example, if

the I5 it takes one hour for the run
we will put the 7 from 54 to 48 minutes or am I wrong?

Of course, on Windows when you fire up lot of small applications, HT means a lot benefit. Without it, little bit more cache means almost nothing. For WRF, cache is somewhat more important so there should be a difference.

It is what it is. This is only my personal guess. Can be anything.
